Lindi Dedek

Hi there!

I’m a Berlin-based Czech-born artist, working with film and performance.

I’m into books, black tea, butoh, comedy, clowning, queer theory.
I love to dance ballet (badly) and eat cake (well).

I hold a Bachelor in Film Production and Scriptwriting (FAMU/Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg)  and have attended the Ecole Philippe Gaulier for comedy acting. Beside my artistic practice, I work as a short film curator at Neisse Film Festival, on the Czech-German-Polish border.

Artist Statement

Born in Czechoslovakia just before the fall of the Soviet era, I explore how the human and non-human are shaped in late capitalism. For me, art is a collaboration between humans, plants and other beings. I have a penchant for folklore, obscure history, and a strong interest in ecological decolonial narratives in (Eastern) Europe.

Fueled by feminist theories, especially the work of Donna Haraway, my research-based practice combines ethnographic data with participative interventions. I use performance, experimental and non-fiction film to connect the mundane with geopolitical. I rediscovered analog film and alternative photographic methods as an antidote to mainstream digital production. With the help of (self-made) cameras, I engage in personal sense-making. I’m fascinated by the storytelling tension within moving image: spoken and written word, sound, and visuals.

In my comedic work, I create mischievous, often monstrous characters that parody neoliberalism, self-referential individuality. They mock and celebrate queerness, with the power of humor to reclaim our bodies and narratives.
